How do I use I'm InTouch for child monitoring?

To use I'm InTouch for child monitoring, simply install I'm InTouch in stealth mode.

Stealth Mode installation:

During the installation process, you will be asked to chose your "Preferred Host Mode". Select the "Stealth Mode" option.

For more information, visit I'm InTouch's Parental Control Software page.

How can I set up Remote Printing?

Note - Supported only on Windows XP & 2000 computers running I'm InTouch.

To setup Remote Printing, you must first determine what printers you will want to print to when you are going to be away from your PC running I'm InTouch. Knowing this, before starting the I'm InTouch Setup Remote Printer Wizard, you will need to install the installation files or drivers of these printers onto your computer running I'm InTouch or ensure that your manufacturer and make or printer can be already found within the Windows Add Printer Wizard.

From the I'm InTouch Configuration system tray icon.

1. Right-mouse click the I'm InTouch Configuration system tray icon (green satellite).

2. From the I'm InTouch Remote Printer Setup screen, select Add.

3. The Add Printer Wizard opens. Note and follow the special I'm InTouch instructions found at the bottom of each screen. Select Next and continue to follow instructions.

4. On the Local or Network Printer screen, select Local Printer and ensure Plug and Play auto detection is not selected. Then select Next.

5. On the Select the Printer Port screen, ensure IIT Port is highlighted and select Next.

6. On the Add Printer screen, choose the Manufacturer and Printer that you will want to print documents to, then select Next.

7. On the Use Existing Driver Screen, choose "Keep existing driver" and select Next.

8. On the Name Your Printer screen, the printer you selected earlier will be presented and will be prefaced with IIT (short for I'm InTouch). We recommend you keep this name, as it will be presented during a remote session as one of your printers you may print to. Select Next.

9. On the Printer Sharing screen, keep the "Do not share this printer" setting and select Next.

10. On the Print test Page screen, select NO when you are not in a remote session and then select Next.

11. Completing Add Printer Screen. Your printer is now available to print documents to locally when you are in a My Desktop session. If this is your only remote printer, this printer will display as the default printer during a remote session.

During a remote session

1. Select "Setup Remote Printer" from the dropdown "Options" menu on the toolbar at the top of the screen.

I'm InTouch will detect all local printers connected to your PC and display them. Choose the printer you wish to print to, ensure "select printer automatically" is checked and select OK. I'm InTouch will determine whether this printers drivers are already installed on your PC running I'm InTouch and automatically setup this printer if possible.

2. If it is not possible to automatically setup this printer, the Add Printer Wizard will open.

3. The Add Printer Wizard opens. Note and follow the special I'm InTouch instructions found at the bottom of each screen. Select Next and continue to follow the instructions.

4. On the Local or Network Printer screen, select Local Printer and ensure Plug and Play auto detection is not selected, then select Next.

5. On the Select the Printer Port screen, ensure IIT Port is highlighted and select Next.

6. On the Add Printer screen, choose the Manufacturer and Printer that you will want to print documents to, then select Next.

Note: if the Printer is not in the list, you will need to select Cancel, then install your printers drivers to this computer and start the Setup Remote Printer process again

10. On the Print test Page screen, select NO when you are not in a remote session and then Next.

11. Completing Add Printer Screen. Your printer is now available to print documents to locally when you are in a My Desktop session. If this is your only remote printer, this printer will display as the default printer during a remote session.

How do I configure my Internet Security Software to work with I'm InTouch?

The nature of a remote access session, delivering data out of your PC to your remote location, is suspicious activity to installed firewalls or security software. After all, as an example, you may have installed a firewall to block viruses from sending unauthorized emails out from your PC's address book. Therefore, it is necessary to configure your firewall so that it will "trust" the I'm InTouch remote access program. The actual configuration of the firewall to trust I'm InTouch will vary by firewall manufacturer, but the process is similar.

What do I do if I'm running Windows XP on the host PC and my Remote Control viewer is blacked out?

This is possibly due to having Fast User Switching enabled on your XP host PC. To resolve this issue disable Fast User Switching.

To disable Fast User Switching:

1. Log in as an administrator to the Windows XP host PC.
2. Select Start, then Control Panel then User Accounts.
3. Select the check box for "Change the way users log on or off."
4. If it is not already selected, select the check box for "Use the Welcome screen."
Note: The "Use Fast User Switching" check box is unavailable until you select the
"Use the Welcome screen" check box.
5. De-select the check box for "Use Fast User Switching."
6. Click Apply Options.
7. Close the User Accounts window.

How can I prevent anti-virus alerts on my host PC when incoming emails are detected to contain viruses?

If you are using Norton Anti-Virus 2004 and remotely viewing new email using the Inbox feature of I'm InTouch, Norton may detect a virus while downloading emails onto your host PC. In this instance, a virus detection message window appears from Norton asking the user to respond to the message. This message window will halt the delivery of all remaining inbound emails until a response is provided. Unfortunately, a remote I'm InTouch user is unaware of this message window requiring action (when using the Inbox feature, OK if using Remote Control) and is not able to remotely view any of the new emails waiting to be delivered to the host PC's email client. In order to ensure that this Message Window appearing from Norton does not interfere with your I'm InTouch remote access, please configure your Norton Anti-Virus 2004 settings.  Click here to see the details.
