I'm InTouch - Remote Desktop Software - FAQ - Using Remote Wake-Up

If you attempt to remotely access your computer and it is powered off, I'm InTouch will notify another I’m InTouch computer on your local network to send the wake-up signal to turn on your computer.  In order for remote wake-up to work, at least one computer on your network must be on and designated as a wake-up proxy in I'm InTouch to send the wake-up signal to other computers.

• A minimum of 2 PCs on the same wired network with the I'm InTouch client software installed. At least one PC must be designated the Wake-Up Proxy and be powered on to wake up other computers on the network
• The computer you want to wake-up must have a BIOS and network card that support Wake-Up On Lan. This feature must also be enabled in both the BIOS and the network card properties in Windows.
• The I'm InTouch administrator must enable Remote Wake-Up for the computer you wish to power on in the User Settings page in I'm InTouch and assign a Wake-Up password for the computer.

Any network card that supports "Wake-Up on Lan" should be compatible with I'm InTouch Remote Wake-Up feature. Please consult with your network card manufacturer to confirm your card's compatibility.

1. Login to your administrator account from www.imintouch.com
2. From your List of Computers page, place checkmarks next to the computers whose Remote Wake-Up properties you wish to change and click the User settings/Activate link.
3. On the User Settings page, ensure that each computer has checkmarks in the boxes for Remote Wake-Up Enabled. We also recommend doing the same for Remote Wake-Up Proxy so that any computer can act as the proxy to wake up the other computers. Remember, at least one computer must have Wake-Up Proxy enabled and be turned on in order for other computers to be remotely powered on.

Methods for enabling Wake-Up On Lan will vary depending on your Motherboard and network card manufacturer. General instructions are as follows:

To enable WOL in your motherboard's BIOS

1. Restart your computer
2. When your computer first boots up, you will need to press a key to enter into your BIOS. Look for a message on screen telling you to press a key to enter Setup or BIOS, or review your motherboard documentation for instructions. Common keys are the DEL and Function keys.
3. Once you are in your BIOS, the WOL settings will usually be under Power Management. Look for a setting similar to Wake-Up on Lan, WOL, or Remote Boot. Review your motherboard documentation for specific instructions.

Note: if on the Wake-up setting of your BIOS shows S# (where # can be 0-5); select S5. If S5 is not available on the list, the I'm InTouch Wake-up will not work.

To enable WOL for your network card in Windows (The following steps are generic, terms may be slightly different depending on your operating system.

1. Right-click "My Network Place" and select "properties"
2. Right-Click on "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties"
3. Click "Configure" and then select the power management tab
4. Ensure Wake-Up on Lan is enabled.

From the “List of I’m InTouch Computers page” click the User Settings link.  Enter a new Login/ Wake-Up password for the desired computer(s) and click Save.

By default, Windows 8 is coming with a "fast startup" mechanism that must be disabled for the I'm InTouch computer to properly shutdown. To disable the "Fast startup" mechanism in Windows 8:

1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Click on the "Power Options" icon to open it.
3. Click on the "Choose what the power button does" link.
4. Click on the "Change settings that are currently unavailable" link.
5. Uncheck the "Turn on fast startup".
6. Click on the "Save changes" button.
